What are the Portal Settings
The Settings section of the Full Fabric Student Portal allows students and applicants to manage their accounts, update their preferences, and personalize their Portal experience. By clicking on their name in the bottom-left corner of the Portal and selecting Settings, users can access their account settings, manage their privacy preferences, including cookie and marketing consent, and review the available options for managing their accounts. This section gives students greater control over their personal information and preferences, helping them maintain an up-to-date account and enjoy a more personalized and secure Portal experience, while removing those 'burdens' from the institution's team.
How to reach the Settings
As described above, Portal users can access the Portal settings by clicking on their name in the bottom-left corner of the Portal and selecting Settings:
What can users update in the Settings?
After accessing the settings, users can do multiple updates divided by categories: profile details, language & region, security and policies.
Profile Details
In this section, users can update their own profile info fields:
You might be wondering: "Why can students see and edit these particular fields, but not others?" The answer is simple! The fields available to students in their Portal Settings are determined by the permissions configured in the Profile Schema. This means your institution can control which fields students can view and update independently.
To customise these permissions, follow these steps:
Navigate to General Settings → Data Management → Schemas → Profile.
In the Profile Schema, double-click the field you want to configure.
In the panel that opens on the right, locate the following settings:
Visible in profile settings: Determines whether the field is displayed in the user's Portal Settings.
Can edit: Determines whether the user can update the field themselves.
If these permissions are set to Anyone or include the relevant user category (Prospects, Applicants, Students, or Alumni), those users will be able to view and/or edit the field in their Portal Settings, depending on the permissions enabled.
This gives your institution full control over which profile information users can access and manage independently in the portal settings:
Language & Region
In this section, users can update the portal language and the timezone:
Security
In the security section they can manage their own portal password, and enable/disable the two-factor authentication:
Policies
Portal users can update their own cookies and marketing policies at anytime, without having to contact the institution directly to try and get someone to do this on their behalf:
