Themes are a way of organising university programmes into meaningful academic or strategic groupings based on shared subjects, disciplines, outcomes, or areas of interest. They help institutions structure large programme portfolios more clearly by connecting related courses under a common category — such as Business, Health Sciences, Sustainability, or Digital Innovation — making it easier for prospective students, applicants, and staff to navigate and understand the institution’s academic offering. 📚
What are Themes
Themes allow institutions to organise programmes into curated groups that reflect how they want to present their academic offering. Rather than relying solely on faculties or departments, Themes provide a flexible way to categorise related programmes around areas of study, interests, career paths, or institutional priorities — helping create clearer navigation, more engaging programme discovery experiences, and a more structured catalogue across the recruitment journey.
How to add Themes
To add new Themes in your Full Fabric instance, go to General Settings -> Institution -> Details. The Themes section is there.
Simply type the new Theme to create it, and give it an External ID. The External ID will be relevant for data exporting purposes.
Assigning Themes to programmes
Having your database of Themes updated, now you're all set to add them into your programmes. Move to the Programmes and Classes tab, and access the programme you wish to update the Theme for:
Click the dropdown to add a Theme for that programme, or X to delete the existing theme, if there is one.
