Overview of the builder

Before diving deeper into the actual content building edition tools, lets first make a general overview of the builder to become familiar with it:

1. Name and Subject: edit them whenever necessary.

2/3. Content, Style and Attach: the edition tools you'll use to insert your email contents, to customise its visuals and to insert attachments. We'll explore these further ahead.

4. Grid and Undo: click the grid button to insert a guiding grid dividing the email contents, and the undo button to revert the last change you've made.

5. Desktop and Mobile: this feature allows you to instantly see how your email will look on desktop and mobile screens.

6. Content: where the formatting elements are to be dragged and dropped, the content gets inserted and the email template progressively takes shape.

7. Usage, Send test email, Save and exit: the usage button shows you where in system this particular template is currently being used on. Send test email to yourself, and see how it looks before using it. Save and exit, save your email template and return to the folder.

8. Preview: lets you see how your email will look to recipients before you send it. It showcases the 'final product' and its layout, formatting, links, images, etc.

Content

The Content area is divided into three categories of tools: Blocks, Layout, and Advanced. All you need to do is drag and drop these tools into the email sections, just like LEGO pieces! Each one comes with its own set of sub-settings based on its purpose, so after placing it, simply double-click to customise it further!

When you create a new email, you’ll notice it begins with four pre-built sections containing sample blocks. You can keep or delete the sample blocks as needed, but the sections themselves should remain, as new sections cannot be created from scratch later. You can still delete existing sections, reorder them, or duplicate them to add more as required:

Blocks

  • Text. Adds fully customizable text blocks where you can write and format content, adjust typography, and style messaging throughout your email.

  • Button. Inserts a call-to-action button with customizable text, color, size, and link settings to drive clicks and engagement.

  • Image. Places standalone images into the email with options to resize, align, link, and optimize for visual impact.

  • Group Social. Adds a set of social media icons that link to your channels, allowing recipients to quickly connect and follow your platform.

  • Navbar. Creates a horizontal navigation bar with multiple links, helping guide readers to key sections of your website or landing pages.

  • Divider. Inserts a horizontal line to visually separate sections and improve readability.

  • Spacer. Adds adjustable empty space between elements to create breathing room and better layout balance.

  • Video. Embeds a video thumbnail linked to your video URL, encouraging viewers to watch your content on an external platform.

Each block type includes its own set of customization options based on the content it supports. Text blocks offer full text-editing controls, including font selection, size, bold, italic, underline, bullet points, attachments, text allignmentand, and more. Other block types may require you to add elements such as links, icons, or media.

In addition, every block can be visually refined using general design settings such as padding, background color, borders, corner radius, size, color, alignment, etc. The same applies to sections, they have their own visual customisation options, independent of the blocks inside them.

When you click on a block or section, its corresponding editing tools will appear on the left side and on the top bar. See some examples below:

Layout

  • 1 Column: adds a new section with 1 column of content

  • 2 Columns: adds a new section with 2 columns of content

  • 3 Columns: adds a new section with 3 columns of content

Advanced

  • Calendar: the calendar widget lets you 'add to calendar' links, so recipients can save events to their calendar with a single click:

Style

Give your email some flavour! The Style section has two interesting tools to do so:

  • Background color: enhance your email by customizing the background color to match your institution’s brand image.

  • Width: define the width of your email to ensure a consistent and balanced layout.

Attach

Whether you’re sharing important documents, images, reports, or resources, there are countless situations where adding an attachment to your email template becomes essential. To do so, click on Attach, and then Attach file. Aside from attaching a new file, you can also download or delete a previously attached document:
